The New York Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Show, the nation’s largest exhibition of orchids, celebrates its 10th Anniversary with Patrick Blanc’s Vertical Gardens, March 3 – April 22, 2012.
The historic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is transformed into vertical gardens featuring structures covered in orchids, ferns, and exotic plants. Created by French botanist and artist Patrick Blanc (whose previous vertical gardens have been acclaimed), this garden features a diversity of orchids from all over the world, along with a wide variety of other plants.
In conjunction with the show, there will be a series of tours (including a self-guided cell phone tour), talks, and orchid classes.
Saturday nights will be Orchid Evenings, when you can stroll the lush gardens sipping an orchid-inspired cocktail. The Shop in the Garden will be stocked with orchids (including some rare and hard-to-find varieties), and experts will be on hand weekends to offer tips on the care and growing of the plants.
Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors and students, and $8 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Garden.
The New York Botanical Garden is located 2900 Southern Blvd. in the Bronx. Take the Metro-North Harlem local line from Grand Central to Botanical Garden Station (20 minutes).
