GET MORE FROM YOUR STATUE EXPERIENCE
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are among the most fascinating sites in NYC. But without knowing how many New Yorkers it took to get Lady Liberty on her feet, how could you know how special she is? Or at Ellis Island, if you didn’t know how difficult the immigration process was (and how terrible the journeys before that!), how could you understand the tension that hung in the air? Or the overwhelming relief felt by every immigrant upon their first step on US soil?
Get the context behind these iconic sights on our guided Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty tours, traveling in small groups of 20 people or fewer with only the best, most interesting (and fun!) NYC tour guides; ensuring that you get the most from your once-in-a-lifetime visit.
Catch an early ferry (with priority boarding) to arrive at Liberty Island before the crowds!
With priority group boarding, we’ll be amongst the first people on one of the first ferries to Liberty Island; so you arrive before the hoards for a little more peace and quiet.
Here your guide will give you a quick tour of the island, including the most incredible views back over Lower Manhattan, pointing out landmarks such as Freedom Tower. Then it’s on to the highlight of our morning – a guided Statue of Liberty tour
Pedestal access gives you a special view*
Our Statue of Liberty tour has one huge advantage over an independent visit – pedestal access! Your tour will start at the base of the statue, where your guide will tell you about the history of the structure. You’ll hear how Lady Liberty arrived as a gift from France, created by the country’s best architects, including one pretty famous engineer, Gustav Eiffel. She arrived by boat, but when she got to New York, the funding needed to build the pedestal wasn’t forthcoming. Hear the incredible story of how Lady Liberty got on her feet, before climbing up to the pedestal level to get a little closer to the statue and to enjoy uninterrupted views across the city harbor.
Explore one of NYC’s most fascinating museums and sites, with a guided Ellis Island tour
Then it’s back on the ferry and on to Ellis Island. They say that the Statue of Liberty was the first thing new immigrants saw of America, but Ellis Island was the second, – and probably the more memorable. Here, 12 million new arrivals were processed through the immigration center, with some granted access and others quarantined or sent home.
On your guided tour of the Ellis Island Museum, you’ll learn all about that process, hearing stories of the journeys undertaken by people from all around the world – by choice or necessity – and what happened once they arrived. You’ll see the Stairs of Separation and understand how the few feet between left and right made a world of difference; plus the famous Kissing Post.
At the end of your tour, you’re welcome to join your guide on the ferry back to Battery Park or spend some more time at your leisure enjoying the incredible interactive displays at Ellis Island.
You’ll learn more about the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island than you ever could have on your own or with an audio guide. And with all tickets and priority boarding arranged in advance, you’ll be able to sit back, relax and truly enjoy two of NYC’s most popular attractions.
*Please be aware that the Statue of Liberty pedestal access requires a 215-step climb, with no elevator access. Please note this tour does not include a visit to the Statue of Liberty's Crown, due to security measures in place by the National Park Services who manage the Statue of Liberty.
